ITALIAN JOURNEYS, John Hall’s meticulously-planned tours, have a flavour and style far removed from the encapsulated quality of conventional tourism. They are inspired by an enthusiasm for Italy, for its civilization and way of life. John Hall’s knowledge of Venice and of less well-known regions, of the countryside, of old inns , undiscovered trattorie and of hidden works of art together with his appreciation of traditional regional cuisine and wines make for an experience out of the ordinary.

INSIDERS’ VENICE March 7 - 12, 2010 Focus: Palladio, Veronese and Giorgione Based: Venice and Castelfranco (ATTENTION PLEASE ! We apologize for the lateness in offering this tour but rather than miss the opportunity to see the Giorgione exhibition at Castelfranco, which ends in March , we hope to go ahead and that you will book without delay. The tour starts on March 7) Many know of Palladio, Veronese and Giorgione, major figures in Venice’s Golden Age , all born in the Venetian territories outside Venice. Many know something of their work in Venice though less of what is in the Veneto. This is a great opportunity to see and know both. As well as his major churches in Venice, the tour visits Palladian villas in the Veneto. We see Veronese’s frescoes in the Villa Barbaro and refectory painting at Monte Berico. And it includes an important exhibition of the works of Giorgione, including La Tempesta, on loan from Venice, in his birthplace Castelfranco, in celebration of the 500th anniversary of his death.
Based: Macerata Few have heard of the Marches, a truly secret paradise- Medieval hill-top towns, wonderful works of art, beautiful and dramatic countryside from sea to high Apennines , excellent food and wine- and almost no tourists. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed. ( The itinerary is different from that of our previous Marche tour.) Details of these two superb tours are found on our Venice and Marche pages. Many of our regulars do both ! Information and Booking from John Hall Italian Journeys, Email : info@johnhallvenice.com
ITALIAN JOURNEYS are planned for people who want to enjoy the best of Italy without having to worry about planning, driving , decisions and deadlines . Those who come feel more like invited guests than part of a package . Many participants come on their own and find the group atmosphere friendly and inclusive.
EACH DAY there are visits in the morning and afternoon to look at works of art, conducted by our Art Historian in Venice on foot , in the countryside by coach . Leisurely breaks for lunch are part of the character of the tours.
ITALIAN JOURNEYS began in 1974 in response to the many parents of students who attended the John Hall Venice Course , asking for something special for them - for adults. They have gradually spread, through Venice Course friends and through our connection with Venice in Peril , to being something special for any Italophile . Numbers are limited to twentyfive: often the group is less. We usually arrange two tours a year, one to Venice or the Veneto, one to a country area, often the Marche region. Each tour gives participants an opportunity to make a contribution to Venice in Peril.
ITALIAN JOURNEYS does not book flights.
